Dr. Kathryn Turner (MBBS; FRANZCP) is a psychiatrist and executive leader with extensive experience in mental health alcohol and other drugs services, specializing in suicide prevention, quality and safety, service improvement, workforce development, and workplace culture. She has worked across both public mental health services and private practice, with a strong focus on system-wide healthcare improvement.
Kathryn has led the integration of Restorative Just and Learning Culture frameworks within Queensland's public mental health services. Her work emphasizes compassionate, systems-based responses to healthcare harm, particularly suicide prevention, focusing on healing, learning, and continuous improvement. Her initiatives have enhanced family and carer involvement, staff support, and organizational learning, leading to measurable improvements in workplace culture and quality of recommendations.
In addition to her leadership in the Zero Suicide framework implementation at Gold Coast Mental Health and Specialist Services, Kathryn has continued to embed systems approached to suicide prevention and healthcare improvement in Metro North in Brisbane.
In recognition of her work, she received the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists' Margaret Tobin Award for excellence in administrative psychiatry in 2018.
Kathryn remains dedicated to embedding restorative approaches to healthcare harm, striving to improve outcomes for consumers, families, staff, and organizations.
